Most of the time, if you have a pest control problem, it is pretty obvious. You’ll find the tell-tale signs of insects, rodents or other pests as you go about your daily activities. You may see the remains of dead or dying insects, find evidence of something being gnawed or chewed, discover identifiable droppings, or even come upon the beady-eyed little pests themselves.

Homeowners in the Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa areas are unique. The places where we make our homes are known for the variety of seasons, rapidly changing weather, and the friendly, hard-working people who live here.
The eastern Nebraska and western Iowa region is also known for its fair share of residential pests that can cause everything from minor irritation to serious damage to the very places where we live and play. Whether you’ve lived here for a lifetime or are new to this area, Genie Pest Control has years of experience and thousands of satisfied customers who would say, “no one knows midwest pest control like the folks at Genie Pest Control.”

Just the thought of bed bugs can make most people itch. While many feel their cleanliness standards would never allow for bed bugs to enter their homes, the facts are that keeping a clean and tidy home doesn’t prevent these annoying and unpleasant pests from entering your home.
Bed bugs are essentially parasites and as such, they get around by looking for an opportunity to hop on and ride along with an unsuspecting host. They are small, oval, brown-colored insects that live on the blood of animals or humans. Adult bed bugs are about the side of an apple seed and have characteristically flat bodies. After a good meal, their bodies puff up and are reddish in color.

With so many people living in multi-family units, there are bound to be issues that need addressing. Aside from security concerns, general maintenance of the property itself, lawn and landscape care, exterior painting and upkeep and a host of other responsibilities, the last thing Omaha property managers need to worry about is insect control for the units they manage.
Spiders can strike fear in even the bravest souls and with good reason. One of the most dangerous sorts of spiders calls our region and the Omaha area home. Brown recluse spiders are aptly named. They are indeed brown and are experts at hiding in places that are dark damp and, well, reclusive.
Brown recluse spiders have a distinctive violin-shaped mark on their backs right behind their eyes. If that isn’t creepy enough, this particular spider has a characteristic number and arrangement of eyes. While most spiders have eight, the brown recluse has six eyes arranged in pairs of three.

Even people with the cleanest of homes can experience unwanted visitors in their homes this time of year. Colder weather drives vermin inside seeking warmer accommodations, food, and water.
At Genie Pest Control, we call this “rodent season” and unfortunately most of our customers don’t find it enjoyable or sporting at all to hunt for the mice and even rats that take up housekeeping in their homes.

You may have seen the old animated cartoon where an unsuspecting gentleman buys a log cabin for a bargain price. The former homeowner quickly packs up and exits the scene while the new resident prepares to set up housekeeping. As quickly as the new homeowner moves in, the entire cabin disintegrates around him into a pile of sawdust. Termites!
While these pests can’t consume a log cabin in a matter of moments, there is some truth to the fact that they can and will do a lot of damage if left to their chewing devices. Termites feast on wood structures, rotting logs, even old newspapers and the pages of books; they are notoriously hearty and difficult to eliminate.

They aren’t choosy about the accommodations as long as they can find a warm place to nest with their friends and family and they can have an ongoing source of food to pillage. Oftentimes, our homes and businesses become the ideal place for mice to set up housekeeping. Do you have a mouse problem? Don’t waste time trying to solve it yourself.
